Jean Frémon’s poetry, fiction, and art criticism have appeared in more than 20 volumes, some translated into English, Spanish, German and Norwegian. In 1973, for L’Origine des légendes he was awarded the Prix Henri-Dumarest of the Académie française. In 2004, L’Île des morts (Island of the Dead), rendered in English by Cole Swensen, won the PEN USA Literary Award for Translation. He is the President of the Galerie Lelong, which he founded in 1981 with Daniel Lelong and Jacques Dupin.
