Guillaume Apollinaire

Poet and critic

From 1900 onwards, Guillaume Apollinaire was a central figure of the artistic scene in Paris. An heir of Symbolist poetry, he was a forefather of the Surrealist Movement. In a relatively short life, he published audacious poetry, fiction, plays, and chronicles. In the First World War he fought, and died for France in 1918.
