Maël Renouard

Novelist, essayist and translator

Maël Renouard studied, then taught, Philosophy at the École normale supérieure. Between 2009 and 2012, he was a speechwriter for France’s then-prime minister. In 2013, he won the Prix Décembre for his novella The Peking Opera Reform. His novel The Historiographer of the Kingdom was a finalist of the 2020 Prix Goncourt and of the Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française. An author of highly accomplished essays, notably Fragments of an Infinite Memory, In Praise of Paris, In Praise of Bookshops and Reminiscences, he is also a translator of Nietzsche, Zweig, Conrad and Keynes.
