Shao Baoqing

Sinologist and translator

Shao Baoqing teaches at Université Bordeaux-Montaigne. In 2001, he gained a doctorate from INALCO with a thesis on the birth of the modern Chinese fictional language. His research on modern Chinese literature has appeared in many journals and edited volumes. He also works on ancient Chinese poetry and, in 2024, published Classement des poètes by Zhong Rong, followed by an anthology (Presse universitaire de Bordeaux). Since 1998, he has translated or co-translated novels by Chi Li, Xi Dong and Chen Zhongshi into French, working with Actes Sud and Seuil. In 2023, he translated Chi Li’s early novella, Une taille de guêpe (Hermits United). With Elsa Shao he is co-translating essays by Shi Zhecun (forthcoming).
