William Marx

Essayist and literary historian

William Marx holds the Chair of Comparative Literature at the Collège de France. Graduating first in Classics from the École normale supérieure, he later gained a doctorate in Comparative Literature from the Sorbonne. A celebrated author of books such as The Hatred of Literature and The Tomb of Oedipus, he has edited works by Paul Valéry and T. S. Eliot. In 2010, he received the Montyon Prize of the Académie française for A Scholar’s Life.
